Why Team Georgia Marketplace?
 

Since 2004, the State of Georgia has been working on upgrading the State procurement system as part of the Commission for a New Georgia (www.newgeorgia.org) initiative. Team Georgia Marketplace is part of that upgrade process, specifically to improve processes and create efficiencies by implementing a technology-driven solution that would accomplish the following goals:

Business Objective 1
Create the structure to centrally manage state-wide procurement contracts and associated documentation from contract creation through termination.

Business Objective 2
Provide the electronic sourcing tools and workflow required to streamline the State’s procurement processes.

Business Objective 3
Promote a more open government marketplace by providing the state procurement professionals, state vendors, and end users an array of online self-service and collaboration tools.

Business Objective 4
Centralize and automate the capturing and collection of core procurement information to better leverage state spend.

Business Objective 5
Procurement performance management processes.

Business Objective 6
Integrate eProcurement processes with the state financials, asset management

 

A New Way of Thinking:
Think “Amazon.com”!

Team Georgia Marketplace will change the way you think about purchasing goods and services as well as the management of that process by opening up the process to more employees and more suppliers. Think of the State of Georgia making purchases in the same way one would purchase a book or music on Amazon.com. What does this experience provide for you? It allows you to get information about the product you wish to purchase. It also allows you to compare price between products. So, you can browse before purchasing using a variety of virtual catalogs; some of these catalogs are linked to the actual supplier website, which allows you to get up-to-date item information and price. Team Georgia Marketplace even includes a virtual shopping cart where you “place” the items you wish to buy before you “check out”.
